The Department of Military Affairs (DMA) is headquartered in Madison, with locations at Truax Field, Madison; Mitchell Field, Milwaukee; the Volk Field Combat Readiness Training Center and the U.S. Property and Fiscal Office, Camp Williams, both located at Camp Douglas; and the Wisconsin Military Academy and the Wisconsin National Guard ChalleNGe Academy, both located at Fort McCoy. There are 60+ armories located in various cities of the state, as well as six Emergency Management regional offices and other military facilities scattered across the state. The Department of Military Affairs employs approximately 400 permanent state classified employees who work in many varied occupations. Employees within the classified service include:
Security and Public Safety Administrative Support Blue Collar positions within DMA include facilities repair worker, maintenance mechanic, shipping and mailing clerk, and storekeeper. These positions require testing at an Office of State Emploment Relations (OSER) exam center. For specific application procedures and exam center locations, click here. Office Support positions within DMA, which require testing at the OSER exam centers, include program assistant and secretary. The Office Support examination is offered every month. By taking only one exam, an individual can be placed on multiple employment registers for different job titles. An applicant may take this exam once every six months. Limited term positions are not permanent civil service positions and, although working in a limited term position is good work experience, it gives you no rights to any permanent civil service position.
