Command Chief Master SergeantWisconsin Army National GuardChief Cullen entered the Air Force in 1989. After completing initial training at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss., he was assigned to the 375th Operations Support Squadron at Scott Air Force Base, Ill., as an air traffic controller. He received certifications in the control tower and radar approach control. In May 1996 he accepted an Active Guard/Reserve assignment as a controller with the Volk Field CRTC, where he received dual qualifications and served as watch supervisor, chief air traffic control training, and chief of standardization and evaluation. In January 2004 he was selected as Volk Field’s airfield manager. In February 2005 he became the operations senior enlisted advisor. He has held a number of other additional duties during this time before being selected for his current position in December 2011. Chief Cullen is very active in his community. He serves as a board member of the Wisconsin Joint Diversity Council, and for 12 years has been a member of the Tomah Youth Wrestling Board. He has coached wrestling at all levels as well as youth football, and is a licensed WIAA referee. He is an active member at St. Mary’s Church, where he is an usher and a member of the finance council and Knights of Columbus. He served as secretary for the Tomah Sports Booster Club and president of the Noncommissioned Officer Academy Graduate Association Chapter 106. He is a member of American Legion Post 201, Tomah Gridiron Club and the Wisconsin National Guard Enlisted Association. Chief Cullen’s military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Good Conduct Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Reserves Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, National Defense Medal with Bronze Star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with one device, and the U.S. Air Force Noncommissioned Officer Professional Military Education Graduate Ribbon with two Oak Leaf Clusters. Chief Cullen lives in Tomah, Wis.
