Wisconsin 115th Fighter Wing Logo

The 115th Fighter Wing of the Wisconsin Air National Guard is a premier F‑35A Lightning II unit based at Truax Field in Madison, Wisconsin. With more than 1,200 Airmen serving in communities across the state, the Wing delivers rapid, reliable capability for both state and federal missions. While under the command of the Governor for domestic operations, the Wing gains a federal role through U.S. Air Force Air Combat Command, standing ready 24/7 to support homeland defense and global combat operations.

The 115th Fighter Wing is recognized as one of the first Air National Guard units in the nation to integrate active-duty Airmen directly into its structure. This total-force model enhances readiness, strengthens mission capability, and ensures the Wing remains a vital contributor to national defense.

Truax Field, the Wing’s home installation, has supported military aviation since the 1940s, when it was named in honor of Lt. Thomas L. Truax. The Wisconsin Air National Guard was formally established here in 1948, marking the start of more than seven decades of continuous service from Madison. Over the years, Truax Field has evolved alongside its flying mission – from early alert and interceptor roles to today’s cutting-edge F‑35A operations.

Rooted in a century of aviation history and strengthened by generations of dedicated Airmen, the 115th Fighter Wing continues to safeguard Wisconsin and the nation with precision, professionalism, and unwavering commitment.
