Wisconsin Army National Guard

Chief Warrant Officer 5 Charles A. Mattison serves as the Wisconsin Army National Guard’s 10th Command Chief Warrant Officer. In that duty, Mattison advises state leadership on all matters pertaining to warrant officers in the Wisconsin Army National Guard.
Mr. Mattison earned a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with Wisconsin Teaching Certification (K-12) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Master of Science degree in education from the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
Mr. Mattison’s military education includes Navy Nuclear Field ‘A’ School, 400-Hz power generation course, electrical journeyman, track vehicle repairer course, master fitness trainer, Army basic instructor, small group instructor trainer, warrant officer training assisting counseling officer, surface maintenance supervisors course, SMS inspection, and warrant officer basic, advanced, intermediate and senior service education. He is an OSHA 501 and 511 qualified instructor, as well as Army ground safety officer qualified.
Mr. Mattison enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1986, serving aboard the USS John F. Kennedy in the engineering division/flight deck as well as on the USS Simon Lake in the repair division. After completing his Navy service requirements, he entered the Wisconsin Army National Guard as an automated logistics specialist, and converted to a track vehicle mechanic in 1998. In 2004 he completed Warrant Officer Candidate School and Warrant Officer Basic Course to become an automotive maintenance warrant officer. He has served as a unit maintenance officer, a senior automotive maintenance warrant officer, instructor, tactical officer, warrant officer candidate school commander, warrant officer candidate school phase 2 assistant deputy commandant, senior ordnance ground maintenance officer, and Wisconsin Army National Guard state safety and occupational health manager, among other duties.
Mr. Mattison was mobilized for overseas deployments to the Gulf of Sidra in 1989, in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2006, and as part of Operation New Dawn in 2009.
Mr. Mattison’s military awards include the Meritorious Service Medal with two leaf clusters, the Army Commendation Medal with three oak leaf clusters, the Navy Achievement Medal, the Navy Good Conduct Medal, the Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal with one silver and two bronze oak leaf cluster, the National Defense Service Medal with bronze service star, the Iraq Campaign Medal with two bronze service stars, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal Armed Forces Reserve Medal with two bronze stars, the Army Meritorious Unit Award, the Army Superior Unit Award, and the Driver/mechanic’s Badge.
Mr. Mattison lives in Stoughton, Wisconsin with Katherine, his wife and partner of 29 years, their Golden Retriever Buzz (lightyear) and cat Tabitha.
