Brig. Gen. Brion J. Aderman

Brigadier General (BG) Brion J. Aderman is the deputy adjutant general for Army. As such, he commands the Wisconsin Army National Guard and is responsible to the adjutant general for all aspects of its mission performance.

BG Aderman’s military career began in 1991 when he enlisted in the United States Army as a cavalry scout and served with the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment and 3rd Infantry Division in Germany before leaving Active Duty and joining the Wisconsin Army National Guard, while perusing an undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. He attended Officer Candidate School

at the Wisconsin Military Academy, and commissioned as a second lieutenant and military intelligence officer in 2001. In the Military Intelligence Branch and career field, his assignments included Tactical Intelligence Officer, 2nd Battalion 127th Infantry, and the Director of Security and Intelligence (J2), he served in multiple assignments as an Intelligence Analyst at the Milwaukee High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area.

BG Aderman branch transferred to the infantry as a company grade officer, and held a variety of leadership positions in the 32d Infantry Brigade Combat Team. He served as infantry platoon leader, executive officer and from 2005-2006 he commanded the Bravo Company 2nd Battalion 127th Infantry while deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

BG Aderman has served in a variety of assignments at the Recruiting and Retention Battalion and at Joint Force Headquarters-Wisconsin. He has responded to multiple domestic operations, most notably rapidly deploying a battalion task force to Florida in the wake of Hurricane Irma, providing vital humanitarian assistance and conducting security operations. In his most recent senior leadership assignments, BG Aderman served as the Director of Domestic Operations and Training (J357) and the Chief of Staff of the Wisconsin Army National Guard.

BG Aderman holds a master’s degree in National Security Strategy from the National War College, a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, a bachelor’s degree in communications from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, and is a graduate of the Harvard Kennedy School General and Flag Officer Homeland Security Seminar. BG Aderman’s military awards include the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal with 4 oak leaf clusters, and several other awards.
