Colonel Christopher J. Charney enlisted in the Wisconsin Air National Guard in 1983. He was an honor graduate from the Aerospace Control and Warning Systems Operator course and was assigned as a Surveillance Radar Operator/Weapons Control Technician in the 128th Tactical Control Flight.
In 1993, Col Charney was commissioned as an Intelligence Officer with the 128th Air Refueling Wing, Milwaukee, Wis. He was a distinguished graduate. Between 1993 and 2005, he deployed as the Chief of Intelligence in support of air refueling, airlift and combat search and rescue (CSAR) operations during 12 combat operations for Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq.
Col Charney was appointed to Joint Force Headquarters-Wisconsin in 2005, where he was the first Air National Guard officer to become the Joint Director of Intelligence and Security. Later, he served as the Chief of Staff, Headquarters Wisconsin Air National Guard.
He was inducted into the Wisconsin Air National Guard Hall of Fame January 2021.
