JOB DUTIES:
This position serves as the Department of Military Affairs’ (DMA) principal technical authority for agency-wide infrastructure and endpoint services. Operating under broad policy guidance, the incumbent sets technical direction; develops, implements, and enforces DMA technical policies, standards, architectures, and procedures; and provides definitive consultation on complex IS technical issues across on‑premises, cloud, and hybrid environments.
The role leads platform strategy and lifecycle for: VMware vSphere; Microsoft Azure; Active Directory/Entra ID; DNS; DHCP; Group Policy; Microsoft Intune; PDQ; Microsoft 365 (M365) and Defender; PrinterLogic (print management); and Splashtop (remote support). It oversees Help Desk and Asset Management operations within State IT, ensuring high-quality service delivery, lifecycle governance, and compliance with DMA and statewide technology requirements. The incumbent participates in the DMA Innovation Working Group and administers the DMA Beta Testing Working Group, standardizing pilots and controlled evaluations of new technologies.
The position directs technical project teams, plans and allocates technical resources, and manages technical aspects of vendor agreements. It assists the Security Architect with cloud brokerage submissions and supports the review and technical evaluation of high‑risk IT contracts. The role represents DMA in enterprise collaboration as appropriate and ensures alignment with statewide IT direction, policy, and security expectations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates who meet minimum qualifications will have experience with:
- Administering enterprise‑level infrastructure or systems. Examples include: servers, virtualization platforms, directory services, cloud environments, or enterprise endpoint management.
- Providing technical problem resolution and consultation for complex IT systems. This includes diagnosing, troubleshooting, or resolving issues that impact multiple systems, users, or business areas.
- Developing, implementing, or maintaining technical standards, configurations, or procedures. Could involve technical documentation, configuration baselines, system hardening, policy adherence, etc.
- Leading or coordinating technical work or projects. This may include assigning tasks, coordinating resources, overseeing project phases, or guiding work completed by others.
In addition to the minimum qualifications, well-qualified candidates will also have the following preferred qualifications:
- Administering or architecting environments using one or more of the following platforms:VMware vSphere, Microsoft Azure, Active Directory/Entra ID, Intune, M365/Defender, PDQ, DNS/DHCP, PrinterLogic.
- Leading Help Desk, endpoint management, or IT asset management functions. Experience influencing or improving service delivery operations.
- Participating in or leading technology pilots, proofs of concept, or innovation initiatives.
- Supporting IT procurement, cloud brokerage, or technical evaluation of IT contracts.
