TRICARE wants its beneficiaries to know the new Human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine for girls and young women is a TRICARE covered benefit. Because the vaccine is new, it may not be available everywhere. Interested beneficiaries or their parents should contact their doctors to find out if they administer the HPV vaccine. Also, the new vaccine does not protect against every type of HPV infection and cannot prevent all cervical cancers. So getting vaccinated does not eliminate the need for screening pap smears, or reduce the importance of regular gynecological exams. For more on vaccination schedules, view the Immunization PDF.

Law Limits Deductions for Over Payments
A new law will ease what has often been an unpleasant surprise for service members, especially wounded troops, by limiting the amount of money finance officials can take from a paycheck to collect on prior over payments of pay and allowances. Instead of taking out large chunks resulting in little or no pay, the government can now take no more than 20% of a service members pay per month. The law, under Section 674 of the 2007 Defense Authorization Act, applies to service members’ debt that is caused by over payment of pay and allowances through no fault of the service member. It adds special protection for wounded or injured troops. Any over payment may not be deducted until 90 days after the service member has been notified.
